What is blue amber?
Blue amber is one of the rarest and most fascinating forms of natural amber, known for its remarkable blue, green-blue, or turquoise glow when exposed to strong sunlight or ultraviolet light. At first glance, natural blue amber may appear dark honey, cognac, brown, golden, or even almost black indoors. But under the right light, its surface can transform with a luminous blue fluorescence that makes it highly desirable among collectors, jewelry lovers, and gemstone enthusiasts.
Unlike ordinary amber, blue amber is prized not only for its warm ancient resin body colour, but also for the optical effect created by light interacting with natural organic compounds inside the amber. This is why genuine blue amber can look completely different depending on the environment. In soft indoor lighting, it may appear earthy and elegant. Under UV light or bright sunlight, it can reveal a vivid electric-blue or blue-green glow.
